Welcome to the Poway Healthcare Fundraiser’s Blog!

ABOUT US

We are four nursing students who are trying to help bring a much-needed health center to the residents of Poway.

The fundraiser will be held at Poway Fun Bowl on Sunday Aug. 5, 2012 from 10:00am-9:00pm.

The nursing students are Candace Bussjaeger, Sandra Morin, Brittany Ball, and Minette Abelgas from National University. While assessing the neighborhood of Poway for their Community Nursing class, they recognized the need for healthcare services in the area and are making efforts to raise money and bring this vision to fruition.

“While talking to people in the community, we came across the sign for the new healthcare center and we wanted to help,” said Bussjaeger.

BACKGROUND

The new community health facility will be located next to the Salvation Army on Poway Road. Alan and Debbie Gold made a large contribution  towards the purchase of the land that the health center will reside on.  The Martin and Delia Gold Health Center is named after Alan’s parents who were longtime residents of Poway.

Neighborhood Healthcare has been in the nonprofit healthcare business for 43 years and is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit with an award-winning reputation. It has strong relationships with both Palomar and Pomerado hospitals.

WHY THE COMMUNITY NEEDS A NEW HEALTHCARE FACILITY?

   ·       The Poway Unified School District is one of the only areas in San Diego County without a community health center

·        Community and healthcare leaders have been asking Neighborhood Healthcare (nhcare.org) to open a clinic in the PUSD for the past 15 years.

·        The health center  will help over 7,500 people in Poway and surrounding communities who lack health insurance and need a place where they can receive affordable and compassionate care.
